Do512 Explains is our editorial series where we unpack some of Austin’s most iconic events and traditions. This time around, we’re diving into Eeyore’s Birthday. The iconic mini-fest is back for its 60th annual celebration on Saturday, April 25th… and you better believe things are going to be the right kind of weird. If you’re unfamiliar with this classic Austin tradition, let us walk you through what it is — and more importantly — why it is that way.
EEYORE'S BIRTHDAY
Eeyore's Birthday Party is a day-long micro-festival that's been taking place in Austin since 1963.
The outdoor gathering is held on the last Saturday of April at Pease Park, near the University of Texas campus. Pease Park originated in 1875 when then-Governor Elijah Pease gave a huge swath of this Shoal Creek property to the city. The park later became the home of Eeyore’s Birthday Party, which has become one of Austin's most iconic and beloved events. The 61st annual celebration will happen on Saturday, April 25, 2026! The event will go from 11:00 am - 8:00 pm, you can check out the full schedule here.
Eeyore’s Birthday has always been free while helping to raise money for local non-profits. Austin non-profit Friends of the Forest Foundation (an organization that distributes funds to local non-profit charities) donate their earnings from Eeyore’s Birthday to organizations who support our beautiful city, so your purchases of drinks, food, etc on-site are going to a good cause.
Eeyore's Birthday Party certainly attracts a varied crowd. You've got hippies, weirdos, furries, responsible parents, dogs, and all other manners of folk attending this adored annual tradition. All-day drum circles, face painting, copious amounts of bubbles, and exotic animals are all yearly occurrences on Eeyore's Birthday. Essentially, it's an opportunity to hang out in the sun, (sort of) celebrate a character from Winnie the Pooh, and let your freak flag fly at full mast. To summarize, Eeyore's Birthday is a wonderfully weird harmony of the varied people whose creative and eclectic spirits make up Austin, Texas.
