Latinx Artists in Austin

It's not just during SXSW that Austin is filled with sounds from around the world.


At any given time, there are a multitude of Latinx Artists in Austin imbuing the city with musical influences from Latin America. From cumbia pop to funk, here are a few of the Latinx people making tunes in the city.

Como Las Movies


Austin quartet Como Las Movies categorizes their unique blend of pan-Latin and pop music as indie cumbia pop. Since their start in 2013, they have received recognition from NPR, SXSW, and Austin Blues on the Green. In 2019, the Austin Chronicle nominated them for “Best Latin Band.” Check out their latest single No Soy De Ti on their website.

Superfónicos


Superfónicos’ infectious rhythms combine Colombia, Funk, and Caribe sound. The Afro-Colombian funk band calls Austin home and is no stranger to KUTX, NPR, and the Austin Chronicle. To keep updated on new music and tours, check out their website.

Brownout


Hardcore Latin Funk artist, Brownout was influenced by artists like War, Cymande, and Funkadelic. The group formed from Grammy Award-winning Latin Revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma and sounds from the American Southwest, rock, blues, and R&B. Keep up with them on their website or Facebook.
