Postino South Lamar

South Lamar just got a tasty new spot.

We know you know - there's a TON of stuff to see and do on South Lamar. (We even made a whole guide about it.) But you and your crew are gonna wanna make plans for this one.

Postino WineCafé was born in a historic 1940s-era Arizona post office in 2001 and quickly made a name for itself... and it's just opened its first Austin location! Postino South Lamar offers an ever-changing selection of boutique wines and local craft brews paired with a decked-out menu of a dozen different types of bruschetta, plus paninis, salads, snacks, soups, and charcuterie boards. If you're a regular South Lamar commuter, or you just want a new stop for snacks and drinks with friends while you explore this super-fun part of town, keep Postino South Lamar on your radar.

The Spot

True to their roots, each Postino location is designed to reflect the local community and the building’s history. At the South Lamar location, the art wall is composed of 52,000 vintage keychains that honor the property’s former life as a Texaco Station; it spans 700 feet and took THREE DAYS to install.

The interior decor showcases collaborations with local vintage shops like Revival Vintage, Uptown Modern, and Modern Redux, and includes accents such as four Murano glass chandeliers and a Jacopo Foggini pendant lamp. The logo design of the South Lamar location pulls from vintage typefaces of the 1950’s to commemorate the rich history of the neighborhood.

The Drinks

Famous for its wine program, Postino serves an always-changing selection of boutique wines from all over the world – including more than 30 by the glass – along with beers on tap, including selections from local breweries such as Real Ale Brewing Co., Viva Brewery, Independence Brewing Company, Live Oak Brewing Co., Austin Eastciders, and more. Plus, Postino South Lamar boasts an expanded bar program, featuring classic cocktails like a Prickly Pear Mezcal Margarita, Smoked Old Fashioned, and the ever-popular Espresso Martini.

And of course... THE FOOD!

Postino’s menu changes seasonally but always includes a bountiful selection of must-have bruschetta, charcuterie boards, from-scratch soups, fresh salads, and panini sandwiches. For shareable bites, the menu features “Snacky Things,” which include Crispy Cauliflower; Butter Poached Shrimp Scampi; Sweet Potato Wedges; and more. The 12 delectable bruschetta offerings include Brie & Apple with Fig Spread; Smoked Salmon with Pesto; Sweet N’ Spicy Pepper Jam with Goat Cheese, and more.

We sampled everything on the menu, from the paninis to the wine to the bruschetta... and you know we didn't skip on dessert either! (We especially liked the Crunchy Hazelnut Bar and the Hot Donut Dots.)

One thing Postino is well known for is their charcuterie boards. We highly recommend you don't sleep on The Greek Hummus Board - it's a huge plate of hummus topped with chopped cucumber, pickled onion, crushed tomato, crumbled feta, fresh herbs, and olive oil drizzle served with grilled ciabatta and pita.

We sampled the Chef's Charcuterie Board too (pictured below) and it was divine - prosciutto di parma, Spanish chorizo, salami, whipped feta, the chef's cheese pick, olive, almond hummus, charred artichoke, blistered sweet pepper, crostini, and all served with lavash bread.

Postino South Lamar is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Happy hour is daily until 5 p.m. every day of the week, during which all of their Main Lineup wines-by-the-glass and pitchers of beer are only $6. Every Monday and Tuesday evening after 8 p.m., guests can enjoy Postino’s iconic “Board & Bottle,” when you can get a bottle of wine and bruschetta board for just $25.
