Sound on Sound was a weird, unruly beast of a music festival.
It was filled with deep dark woods, medieval imagery, and loud music. Needless to say, we loved every minute of it. Strange Inquiry braved savage torrents of rain, long nights with little to no sleep and an hour-long drive outside of Austin to bring you another round of out-of-left-field interviews with bands that we think are awesome. Read our interview with Jagwar Ma below.
Jagwar Ma is three blokes from Australia who make tripped out, danceable psychedelia. The guys found success with the release of their blissed out debut single, "Come and Save Me". Read our interview with the band below.
Do512: What song plays as Jagwar Ma go riding into battle?
Jagwar Ma:
- "Enter Sandman"
- "Darude - Sandstorm"
- "Ride of the Valkyries," or "Dance of the Knights." We all die in that scene. We get to the front line and Jono betrays us.
What do you wish you could experience for the first time all over again?
Jagwar Ma:
- The first time I met (lead vocalist Gabriel Winterfield) Gab.
- Opening a pack of Pokemon cards and finding that shiny, shiny Charizard. That was a big deal when I was nine.
What is the best compliment you've ever received?
Jagwar Ma:
- (To guitarist Jono Ma) You're one of my best friends. You're good at ironing clothes, too.
- When we did that Rough Trade in-store, some woman told me I was an animal on stage. I don't know if that's a compliment or not.
What's the dumbest way you've hurt yourself?
Jagwar Ma:
- I bite the inside of my mouth a lot, and that's pretty dumb.
- I was drunk one time and decided to give Jono a piggy back ride. I was going full pelt down the street and was singing "All the Single Ladies," approached a fire hydrant, and decided to jump it like Super Mario. Let's just say I ate shit. I ripped my pants and really gashed my knee. We were standing outside the hotel and just had to pull the whole leg of the pant off. Crying and laughing.
If someone was writing the Jagwar Ma biography right now, what would the title of this chapter be?
Jagwar Ma:
- "The Wonder Years"
- "Would That it Were So Simple"
If the universe had a suggestion box, what would you put in it?
Jagwar Ma:
- Dear universe, would it be possible that we could just not have let this whole environmental situation get the way that it has gotten on this tiny little planet we call Earth? Could we just have like, one alien neighbor? Can there just be some people on Mars?
- Make everything closer. It's all so spread out, isn't it?
- More readily available milkshakes.
