Nigerian native Olaniyi Rasheed Akindiya a.k.a. Akirash creates interactive, encompassing works of mixed media that contain elements of painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. With a strong suspicion of the economic systems that dominate our daily lives, Akirash often employs consumer detritus—plastic spoons and forks, paper currency, tin cans, etc.—as artistic medium to playfully address and subvert the commercial power structures commanding the West. Creative, unique, and enlightening, Akirash's work manages to generate both visceral and intellectual reactions within its viewers. His newest exhibition, "We Are All Bewitched" will be shown at the Big Medium Gallery until November 20th.

When not directing Austin's next biggest art tour, Swec devotes time to her craft, painting surreal images of natural landscapes, wildlife, and trees that simultaneously pacify and engage the eye. Swec's work has been featured throughout the Austin area for years, displayed at prestigious galleries like the D. Berman Gallery and affixed to the walls of public buildings like The Cloth Pocket and San Marcos' Root Cellar Bakery. Swec is undoubtedly a master of color, stroke, and texture. 6. John Mulvany

Open throughout tour

3401 Govalle Ave

With acrylic, ink, paper, canvas, and wood-panel, John Mulvany illustrates parallels between the ancient and the modern, blending the two with a sweeping intensity. Having moved to the United States from Ireland as a young man, Mulvany often incorporates elements of naturalism, magical-realism, folk art, religious motifs, and abstraction into his work. Mulvany's paintings manage to reflect upon past ideologies—religious and aesthetic—while addressing ostensible technological and philosophical advancements of our current world. Colorful, abstract, and always outré, Mulvany's work is a total delight. Head to his studio and check out his art.

7. Dimension Gallery - The Paved Garden

Founded by venerated sculptors Colin McIntyre and Moya Khabele, Dimension Gallery provides an outlet for artists interested in creating three-dimensional, heavy work. For 2016's East Austin Studio Tour, Dimension Gallery will unveil The Paved Garden, a "curated outdoor collection of large sculpture from heavy hitting artists." Get lost in the abstract world of The Paved Garden on November 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

A warehouse environment featuring work from many artists, Topology is one of Austin's newest and most avant-garde studios. While the gallery contains a variety of work composed with various mediums, Topology specializes in abstract sculpture that attempts to understand the techno-capitalist world we inhabit today. Through the spectacle of sculpture and painting, artists of Topology question the validity and power of technology, capital, and post-industrial values. Become a Luddite and head on over to the Topology Warehouse.

900 Vargas Rd.

White Light Studio is an all-female studio comprised of artists working to create a space where women can develop their creative skills and practice their autonomy. Like an actualization of Virginia Woolf's room of one's own, White Light Studio allows budding female artists to engage with their feminine identity away from the idealization and influence of patriarchy. With a strong emphasis on sisterhood and community, White Light Studio is one of Austin's finest feminist establishments. Throughout the 2016 tour, the studio will feature tons of guest female artists. Stop by and experience the sisterhood.

10. The Pershing - ARTBASH

Friday, Nov, 11 - 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

450 Pedernales

On November 11, esteemed gallery The Pershing will host ARTBASH, a single night experience that "layers site-specific installations and performance pieces over the existing exhibition." This overdub ruptures the traditional process of viewing art in the gallery by forcing the viewer to question what is real and what is merely the product of overlap. Calling upon many of Art Alliance's partners over the past two years, ARTBASH will be an exciting and progressive exhibition.
