The Best Places to Buy Booze in Austin

Typically, the buying of booze takes a backseat to the drinking of it.

In fact, in the grand scheme of your night, you probably don't consider the place you buy your booze to be very important. We'd implore you to reconsider that perspective because we live in a town that has some truly exemplary places to purchase the goods. From old school standbys to funky new storefronts, here are a few of our favorite places to stock up for a party in Austin.

Note: For our own edification, we are taking the term 'booze' to mean either hard liquor or beer.

Wiggy's

1104 N Lamar Blvd

When we mentioned old-school standbys, Wiggy's is exactly what we were referring to. If you find yourself in the Clarksville area and in the market for some beer, wine, liquor or cigars - look no further than Wiggy's. Since 1973, they've been supplying Austin with all the components for a good time.

Whichcraft

1900 Simond Ave #200

For all the craft beer lovers out there (there are more every year), you need to know about Whichcraft. This is a place that very quickly gives folks kid in a candy shop syndrome. That is to say, you'll be drooling at the sheer volume of their selection. The only problem with Whichcraft that we can ascertain is trying to pick which beer to buy.

Quickie Pickie

1208 E. 11th st.

When it came to writing about the best places to buy beer and such in Austin, Quickie Pickie was an easy picky for this list. Quickie Pickie is an east side favorite for the nightly grabbing of supplies. Quickie Pickie has what they refer to as a Stop N Sip bar if you want to grab a beverage while you're there, as well as a cafe and kitchen. They also have a name that rhymes, and that certainly doesn't hurt.

Hyde Park Market

4429 Duval St

Hyde Park Market is hard to miss. Located in the Duval area of Austin, the store makes its presence well-known with scores of decorative, colorful flags jutting out from their roof. They've transformed what would've once looked like a pretty ordinary, run-of-the-mill corner stop into a welcoming destination for food and drink. The inside of the market is no less impressive - Hyde Park Market is absolutely flush with variety when it comes to beer. Don't forget; they've got food, too.

The Austin Shaker bill themselves as "Booze Professionals," which we have to admit sounds pretty damn cool as a job profession. As it turns out, Austin Shaker has the goods to back up the claim. Since 2015, The Austin Shaker has been a prime destination for people looking to hunt down rare and sought after liquors from all over the world. On top of that, they have an exceptionally friendly staff ready to give you any pointers you might need playing bartender for the night.

Chris' Liquor

2203 S Lamar Blvd

Look - it's possible that we may be slightly biased since our Do512 office is literally across the street from Chris' Liquor. As you can imagine, we've ended up in there a few times (understatement) to buy booze, mixers, etc and it's always been what you'd want out of a liquor store: clean, friendly, and well-stocked. Next time you're in Chris', tell 'em Do512 sent ya. You probably won't get a discount, but you can still give our regards!

The Meteor

2110 S. Congress Ave

The Meteor recently beefed up their wine selection and it's now a big part of who they are and how they serve the community (that alongside a darn good cafe menu). They carry mostly natural wines and have a large selection.
