Throwback Thursday: Scholz Garten

It's time to go back in time...

Our first spot is a bar and cafe is nearly as old as Austin itself. This is your Throwback Thursday: Scholz Garten.

Opened in 1866, Scholz Garten predates the institutions that surround it- the state Capitol Building and The University of Texas.

The establishment has served as the host to famous Texans like Governor Ann Richards as well as writers Molly Ivins, Billy Lee Brammer and Bud Shrake. In a 1965 article for Sports Illustrated, Shrake wrote that “Around a single table at the Scholz Garten one may find a bewildering assortment of people.”
