A Documentary on Legendary 13th Floor Elevators Member Tommy Hall Is Being Made

Any fan of Austin music and its rich history knows about the 13th Floor Elevators. The band pioneered the sound we know today as psychedelic rock, and you might have seen the legendary band's first performance in almost 40 years at the most recent LEVITATION Festival at Carson Creek Ranch. And now a new documentary aims to chronicle the life of one of the movement's most significant individuals, Tommy Hall.

VIA KICKSTARTER:

"Tommy Hall, the guru of '60s psychedelic rock, is a fascinating figure in musical history. Tommy Hall and his 13th Floor Elevators were the first psychedelic band in history and helped bring in this psychedelic era. Tommy is considered by many to be the best lyricist of his time.

Slip Inside This House is a documentary film about the life of Tommy Hall of the 13th Floor Elevators: his childhood, his days as a student at the University of Texas in the 60s, his studies in the philosophies in consciousness and cosmic human experience, the inspiration behind his art, the forming of The 13th Floor Elevators, and aspects of The Design (his current work).

Tommy is a reclusive figure that has not allowed anyone to interview him in-depth on film. The project started in April 2015 when Tommy Hall gave George Ripley both his cooperation and blessing to the project. It is not likely ever to occur again."

"Currently the project has obtained numerous photographs from various time periods of Tommy Hall's life. It has also obtained a scan of the Texas Governor's proclamation in recognition of the The 13th Floor Elevators directly from the Governor's office. Also of note, Tommy Hall has re-recorded three of his old songs to be used in the soundtrack, and as well, he is contributing several new musical compositions for the soundtrack. The project has interviewed many people closest to Tommy Hall..."

Austin history fans, psychedelic music fans, and lovers of music in general should seriously consider donating to the film's Kickstarter, which will go to cover the costs of editing and postage for perks. Contributors can receive a number of said perks, including limited handbills, movie swag, limited edition merch signed by Tommy himself, and much more.
