There's nothing quite like bowling. The therapeutic roll of shiny balls gliding down the glossy wood of the lanes. The particularly pleasing crash of urethane on plastic pins. The visceral thrill when you bowl a strike. There's something deeply meditative and metaphysical about bowling, but we'll leave thorough explanations to the academics. Check out the Best Places to Bowl in Austin.

Regular bowling is for the birds! Head to West sixth for something more athletic than throwing back shots and get into the old-school classic Duckpin bowling. Babe Ruth's favorite and anyone who enjoys the rule of threes since you get three whole chances for a strike. Doesn't hurt that the game welcomes eating and drinking while you do it, and Bull & Bowl has that covered.

Punch Bowl Social offers the ultimate destination to go bowling and so much more. With nearly 25,000 games of bowling played last year at the Domain location only, Punch Bowl Social is not your average bowling destination. From the specialized string pinsetter system to the chef-prepared brunch, lunch, happy hour, and dinner, you'll receive a unique bowling experience regardless of if you're bowling a strike, a turkey, or even the occasional gutter ball.

Situated on W. William Cannon, Westgate Lanes is an old-school bowling alley that keeps the prices low and the levels on the fun-meter high. On Sunday and Monday nights at 9 pm, the alley hosts a $10 bowling night, an affordable package that includes your own lane, shoe rentals, and unlimited bowling. Is there a better way to kick off the workweek than sipping some brews and bowling some strikes? We didn't think so.

Union Underground, because of its location inside U.T.'s campus, is often incorrectly thought to exclusively cater to students. Unbeknownst to many, the alley is open to the public and hosts one of the coolest bowling events in Austin: Glow Bowl. Lucky for us, this special occurs every day with Union Underground whipping out the black lights, lasers, and music for some retro-futurist bowling fun. Unlike most other alleys, Union Underground keeps the lights off all the time (except when leagues have tournaments).

One of the oldest ethnic organizations in town, Austin Saengerrunde is an old-timey bowling alley that proudly wears its German roots. Originally started in 1905 as a bowling club, it expanded into its current form—a six-lane alley—in 1927. Austin Saengerrunde hosts men's leagues on Mondays, mixed leagues on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and an annual members-only tournament. In addition to the bowling fun, the alley hosts other German festivities like Damenchor and Maennerchor. Become a member, get in touch with your German roots, and go knock some pins over.
