Yeah, it's just flavored sugar poured over ice, but who cares???
You need that kinda thing from time to time. And while some of our staff are weird, diehard pickle flavor fanatics and the other half are more sensible wedding cake heads, there's really a sno cone for everybody. Unless you like the fake chocolate flavor. Then you're just weird. Here are the best places around Austin to get 'em...

If you find yourself at Pease Park or Littlefield's Tacos + Coffee this summer, treat yourself to some soft and smooth shaved ice from SnoRide. Their flavors are made from 100% pure cane sugar, leaving you with a slightly tart, fruity, and full-of-flavor refreshing snack. They are served in cute little to-go boxes and you can choose from toppings like sweet cream, candy Nerds, rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, sour blast, or fairy dust. Their summer hours vary, but you can find them at Pease Park daily and at LIttlefield's Thursday - Sunday. You can text them at (512) 698-7961 to confirm open times!

You might have a lot of questions. Questions like "Who is Casey?" or "How does New Orleans do sno cones differently?" You'll find those answers here. Meanwhile, we're going to cut to the taste chase and turn the focus towards their 60+ flavors (featuring made-in-house simple syrup), and two classic picks in particular: chocolate and cream. Touché, Casey, touché.

While we're all familiar with ice water, sometimes you have to turn the tables and opt for water-ice, which is apparently a Philadelphia thing and definitely a lot more exciting than it sounds. Jim-Jim's serves up sweet, slushy concoctions that you have the option to make even more magical with the addition of ice cream. We'll go ahead and tell you that's a good option.

Bahama Buck's is a snow cone chain featuring their ribbon shed ice and an internationally inspired menu. They offer over 90 different flavors for your ice, and you can have multiple flavors in one cone. Done right, this means a tasty one-of-a-kind combo in every styrofoam cup - get creative! Bahama Buck's also has smoothies, bowls, shakes, and sodas.

The concept of a sno beach sounds bizarre...until you consider Antarctica. Or this sno cone stand. (Personally, we prefer the latter.) Marked by a sunglass-adorned sno cone (clearly making them way...cooler...than other stands), Sno-Beach has over 60 flavors—ranging from Hawaiian to horchata—making it what, in beach terms, we'd consider pure paradise. *Somebody cue the Jimmy Buffett*

Another New Orleans-style snoball spot (we're learning while writing this that that's kind of a thing), Sweet Caroline's offers "light, fine and fluffy" frozen treats in flavors that run the good-tasting gamut from traditional (think cotton candy) to more outside-the-cone options like red velvet cake. Anything cake-flavored is fine with us.

Creative gourmet shaved ice is what you can find at the Shaved Ice Island. They offer traditional classic flavors to gourmet flavors that include tea and coffee and even a mystery flavor; you will never know what you get until you try it. They also have a red-hot ghost-cinnamon challenge for customers who dare eat the freezing fire flavor, but it will earn them a certificate of honor if they complete it.

Sno.Co boasts the "Softest Sno in ATX". We're not here to confirm or deny that claim, but we can attest that their flavors are mouthwateringly good (and easily adultified next door at Butterfly Bar). Every syrup at Sno.Co is made with fresh fruits and veggies; several of the standouts are cocktail inspired, like the Manor Mule and fresh mint-topped Mojito. Oh yeah, and the cups are color-changing, so you know you're gonna start hoarding that shit.
