Son's Island & Blue River Camp

We promise we're not trying to make you jealous.

But, fair warning - the photos on this page have the potential to be jealousy-inducing. One sunny afternoon, the Do512 crew took the one hour drive out to beautiful Son's Island for a little rest and relaxation. Located on Lake Placid in Seguin, Texas, Son's Island is a place where you can go swim, fish, swing off rope swings, kayak, paddleboard or just a drink beer in the sun and decompress.

Accessible only by bridge, there are 40 open-air lakeside cabanas on Son’s Island that may be rented individually or in groups by the day. The three and a half acre getaway is available for rent here. See photos from our trip to Son's Island below.

Recently, the folks behind the Son's Island opened up another little slice of paradise: Blue River Camp. Much like Son's Island, this appropriately-named oasis is an idyllic place to rent a cabana and swim, fish, kayak, tube, and glamp at one's complete leisure.

Lake Placid to be drained — Update on Aug. 20, 2019 from Son’s Island Facebook page:

“If you have not yet heard, the GBRA of Texas is draining all of the lakes in our area, including Lake Placid, where Son’s Island is located. At this time the only time frame we have is it will be YEARS before they are refilled!!! Plan now to enjoy Son’s Island before this happens.”

If you’d like one last chance to visit before the lake is drained in late September 2019, you can book online or call 888-993-6772. You can read about the reason for the lake drain here. And you can stay abreast of any updates about Son’s Island on their Facebook page.
