Staying active in the Texas heat can be a challenge...
Let's be honest - when it's approaching triple digits and the humidity is out of control, the last thing we wanna do is meet up with the crew on the court. We've already worked up a sweat just by stepping outside! Luckily, there are a number of spots around Austin with sport courts open well after the sun goes down and temps drop to reasonable levels. Take a look, make a plan, rally the gang, and get a game in.
NOTE: The City of Austin has a LOT of indoor Community Recreation Centers, and most are open until 10pm. We've highlighted a couple of our favorites below, but you can find the full list here and scope out one nearest you!

As far as Austin parks go, Walnut Creek is pretty darn famous, with miles of paved hiking and cycling trails, a swimming pool, and over 200 acres of room for all kinds of fun. But we have it on good authority this is the spot to be for an evening game of hoops until the park closes at 10pm - the courts are well-lit, and because they're fairly new, this spot has become a pretty popular option for a pick-up game or two.

Downtown Austin's rooftop pickleball club provides you the opportunity to play the game surrounded by good friends and our impressive city skyline. And an environment like that is even better when the sun goes down and you're immersed in the city lights! Urban Pickleball Club has six courts, but it's a members-only endeavor. Guests are allowed when accompanied by a member, so ask around your pickleball circle!

Open until 10pm on weekdays, Caswell Tennis Center is an iconic tennis spot in Austin, located just north of the UT campus. Caswell boasts 8 hard courts, and although the facility is public, they still offer clinics and private coaching, and we're told it's one of the best places to improve your game.

Metz Park is a pretty popular East Austin park, but for the purposes of this guide we wanna focus on the Rodolfo "Rudy" Mendez Recreation Center, which features a tennis court and a covered basketball court and is open until 8pm Monday-Thursdays and 6pm on Fridays. If you bring the kiddos along while you're getting your game on, there's a playground at the park too!

Various Locations
Sometimes you wanna find a spot where you can challenge your friends to a game on the court, and then celebrate your victory with a cold beer and some A+ food truck grub. Bouldin Acres is that place, with locations on South Lamar and Braker Lane! Their pickleball courts are well-lit and open late, like the bars themselves. They're pretty popular though, so make sure you reserve ahead of time for your crew!
