Lewis Black
Lewis Black is a multiple Grammy Award-winning comedian and playwright. He is one of few performers to sell out Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Brooks Atkinson Theatre, New York City Center, and the Mirage in Las Vegas. He got his start in theater as playwright-in-residence at the West Bank Café’s Downstairs Theatre Bar where he oversaw the development of more than 1,000 plays, including works by West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin and American Beauty writer Alan Ball. A cast member of The Daily Show since its inception in 1996, Lewis has also done four standup specials for Comedy Central and ruled as judge for two seasons on Root of All Evil. He earned an Emmy for his wit and humor in segments for HBO's Inside the NFL which he produced and starred in 2005. He's filmed two HBO specials, Black on Broadway and Red, White and Screwed and has written three bestselling books, Nothing’s Sacred, Me of Little Faith and I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas. In fall 2009 his stand-up performance, Stark Raving Black, was released in theatres across the US and Canada. The CD of the performance debuted at #1 on the Billboard comedy chart in June 2010 and went on to win his second Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2011. He first was for 2007’s The Carnegie Hall Performance. His latest special, In God We Rust, is currently airing on Epix.
